Music with Passion

Upbeat indie rock band, Passion Pit, is making the rounds doing cover after cover. First, they covered The Cranberries "Dreams" at a show a few weeks ago, and now have the version streaming on their Myspace page. Their Cranberries cover had that same optimistic feeling you get listening to "Moth's Wings."

Just recently the band put their stamp on the old Smashing Pumpkins favorite "Tonight, Tonight" for the Levi's Pioneer Sessions, which is a project Levi's is doing to revive classic music that artists these days are inspired by. Passion Pit chose to honor The Pumpkins.

The Smashing Pumpkins cover still has a melancholy feel to it, but is slightly different without Billy Corgan's croon and the soothing sadness of the violins and guitar. Still, it's a beautiful cover.

Katy Perry's fun and sun loving song "California Gurls" seems to be in the running as the summer smash, and I already can't bear to listen to it because the radio plays it so much. Passion Pit has taken the summer hit and put their spin on it, remixing it Passion Pit style. It is somewhat better, but it still doesn't guarantee a radio station change when the song comes on...
